Beyond the Tree is a 10x14 watercolor original by artist Nandkishor Shinde, a massive old tree with a thick, multi-stemmed trunk standing beside a coastal path, with blue water, moored boats, and two figures walking toward the shore.
The tree's thick, multi-stemmed trunk is built from layered violet and brown washes, giving it real mass against the softer blue water behind it. The two figures walking toward the shore are small and quiet, letting the tree remain the clear anchor of the composition.
The overall composition favors the tree's presence over the distant water, keeping the scale intentionally close and grounded. The moored boats visible in the distance are reduced to a few simple marks, kept minor against the dominant scale of the tree.
Beyond the Tree reflects his consistent interest in ordinary village and coastal life, rendered through loose washes rather than tight, literal illustration. This piece is one of 20 watercolors in the same release, drawn from Shinde's travels through Konkan villages, the coast, and Pune's countryside and city streets. Alongside Beyond the Banyan, it forms a pair of works built around a single, dominant old tree near water.
