Blue Kadi

Blue Kadi is a 12" x 12" acrylic original by artist Gopal Pardeshi, and its title names exactly what it shows: a kadi, the ring-shaped metal latch found on traditional wooden doors, painted in close, isolated detail and set entirely within tones of blue.

Pardeshi paints the ring with the weight and shine of real handled metal — a warm bronze catching light unevenly across its curve, hung from a rough wooden peg. The surrounding frame is painted directly onto the canvas as a piece of weathered, cracked wood, so the boundary between the painting and its own presentation dissolves into a single object.

What makes Blue Kadi more than a straightforward object study is the color underneath the ring: a scatter of red speckling breaks through the blue field, along with the faint silhouette of hanging leaves in the upper corner. The blue named in the title is never left to sit alone — it's deliberately interrupted, the same way the artist's other small studies each pair one dominant color with a contrasting break in it.

This ring is not an invented object. It's the same latch that appears on the door in Pardeshi's larger companion painting, The Door — Blue Kadi works as a close, isolated look at a single detail from that fuller scene, the doorway's threshold reduced to its most essential fixture.

Pardeshi's technique throughout favors photographic precision in the object itself against a looser, more painterly treatment of the frame and background, a contrast that gives each piece in this series its trompe-l'oeil effect.

The square format and intimate scale suit a hallway, entryway, or a grouping alongside Red Bell and Dry Leaf, where the shared framing device ties the works together as a set.

This is a hand-painted acrylic original on canvas, not a reproduction. Surface texture in the painted frame is part of the artist's technique, built up to imitate real weathered wood.

Blue Kadi rewards close viewing at the exact distance one might actually reach for a door — the scale and realism are built for that kind of proximity.

Blue Kadi sits alongside pieces like Drya leaf in Pardeshi's Guest Artist collection, rendered with Pardeshi's hyperrealistic, trompe l'oeil precision on an ordinary object. As a gallery-wrapped acrylic on canvas, it can be hung unframed for a clean, contemporary look, or set into a simple floating frame for a more finished edge. Blue Kadi would suit a music room, where its scale and palette can anchor the space without overwhelming it.
