The Door is a 96" x 72" acrylic original by artist Gopal Pardeshi, the largest work in this group and the piece that gives the others their context. Where Blue Kadi, Red Bell, and Drya leaf each isolate a single object in close detail, The Door pulls back to show the full threshold they belong to — a weathered stone doorway, its blue wooden door standing half open onto a warmly lit room beyond.
The bronze ring latch set into that blue door is the same object painted alone in Blue Kadi, and seeing it here, fixed in place on the actual door, changes what the smaller painting was doing all along — not studying an invented object, but extracting one true detail from this larger scene.
Pardeshi renders the stone frame with carved detail: a floral rosette medallion above the lintel, a small niche in the wall holding a single flower, and a thick, twisted rope climbing the right-hand pillar like something grown rather than tied. A weathered wooden bench sits at the base, and two small marigolds rest on the threshold itself.
Through the half-open door, a sunlit interior is visible in soft focus — a wall, a small framed picture, a hanging plant, and a single yellow butterfly caught mid-flight at the boundary between outside and in. A warm red-orange glow shows above the lintel, suggesting a sunset happening just out of full view.
This is trompe-l'oeil painting at full scale: every surface, from the pitted stone to the door's wood grain to the coiled rope, is built to convincingly read as physically real rather than painted, an effect that depends on the size of the canvas to hold up at true viewing distance.
Given its scale, The Door works as a genuine architectural statement piece — suited to an entryway, stairwell, or a wall with enough room for its full detail to resolve from across a space.
