HIDE & SEEK is a 14.75" x 13" watercolour original by artist Jaya Javeri, painted within her own hand-finished distressed frame. Rows of carved stone pillars recede into a temple interior, and small figures — a woman close to the viewer, two more further back in shadow — are placed so that the columns themselves partly conceal them, exactly as the title suggests.
Javeri paints the pillars with warm terracotta washes and darker shadowed intervals between them, the repetition of column after column creating the rhythm the figures are woven through, appearing and disappearing behind each successive support.
This use of architecture as something that both reveals and hides its human subjects is the painting's central device — the figures aren't hiding intentionally, but the pillared hall does the work the title names regardless.
The frame itself is treated as part of the artwork, painted with the same weathered stone-carving motifs as the interior scene, so the boundary between the painting and its presentation continues the temple's architectural language outward.
Javeri's loose, wash-based watercolour technique keeps the architecture atmospheric rather than architecturally precise, prioritizing the feeling of walking through such a space over exact structural accuracy.
