SEVEN HILLS is a 50" x 24" oil original by artist Jaya Javeri, the largest work in her temple series and her only piece in oil rather than watercolour. The composition spans two joined panels, each holding its own cluster of stepped temple gopurams rising against a glowing red-to-gold sky.
Where The Seven Hills renders the same subject in soft watercolour wash, this piece is built in thick, visible oil impasto, the paint laid on with real texture and weight — a shift in medium that gives the larger canvas a rougher, more physical presence than its smaller watercolour companion.
The two-panel structure lets Javeri repeat and vary the same tower silhouettes across a wider field, the left panel deeper red, the right panel shifting toward brighter gold around a glowing sun, so the piece reads as one continuous sunset moving across the full width of the work.
Small flags atop the towers and dark window openings within them are picked out in confident, economical strokes, details that hold up at this larger scale without requiring the fine linework of the artist's smaller watercolour pieces.
As the largest and only oil piece among Javeri's temple works, Seven Hills functions as the culminating statement of a subject she also explores at smaller, quieter scale in The Seven Hills.
Given its size and impasto texture, this piece suits a substantial wall where its physical brushwork can be appreciated up close as well as its full composition from a distance.
