Strata in Earth Tones II

Strata in Earth Tones II works entirely in flat geometric planes, colour and shape doing all the compositional work without any literal subject to lean on.

The negative space in the composition is treated with as much care as the painted areas, giving the piece room to breathe.

Its simplified, graphic style suits a contemporary space looking for abstract art that reads clearly from across a room. Under gallery-style spotlighting, the brushwork's texture becomes considerably more pronounced than in flatter ambient light.

Working at a large scale changes the physical process of painting as much as the visual outcome - broader, more confident strokes are needed to keep a bigger composition from feeling thin or under-worked. Sajaao's artists adjust their technique accordingly for this collection's larger canvases.

This canvas holds real surface texture from its layered acrylic application, giving it a dimension that a flat image simply can't replicate. Free framing, secure packing and a certificate of authenticity are included with every order. Sajaao's artists don't work from a template for pieces like this - each canvas is painted fresh, which shows in the small variations from one piece to the next. A certificate of authenticity and complimentary framing come standard.

The frame comes free with the painting, in Black, Brown or White, so you can match it to the room without an added charge. It works equally well as a self-purchase for a space you're building slowly, or as a gift for someone who notices the difference between decor bought off a shelf and an original. The painting needs little upkeep beyond an occasional soft-cloth dusting and a spot away from harsh, direct light. It's framed and ready to display as soon as it's unpacked.

It's the sort of piece that changes slightly depending on where you're standing, which is part of the appeal of an original. It's a modest-sized piece with a fair amount of visual weight, which is often the more useful combination for a room. The detail rewards a closer look, but the composition also reads clearly from across a room, which isn't always the case with busier still lifes. The scale was chosen to read clearly from a normal viewing distance without needing to dominate the wall around it. It's sized to work in most standard rooms without needing an unusually large or small wall to accommodate it. The piece doesn't rely on a gimmick or a single clever detail to hold interest over time.
