Deep Blue Anchor is a 20" x 20" acrylic original by artist Vinay Mhatre, dominated by a wide field of bright cerulean blue that fills most of the canvas, broken by a dark, angular hull shape pressing in from the upper left corner.
That hull form is worked in near-black navy with visible brushwork and scratched texture, its sharp diagonal edge cutting cleanly against the flat saturation of the blue field beside it, the single strongest structural line in the composition.
Lower in the canvas, a cluster of gold, ochre, and turquoise textured shapes gathers into a dense, rock-like formation, studded with small pebble-like marks in purple and red that catch the eye as the one warm, richly worked passage in an otherwise cool piece.
A narrow band of deep red runs horizontally through the right-center of the canvas, a brief warm interruption in the blue field that echoes the warmer cluster below it without repeating it directly.
Small teal and turquoise accents are scattered near the top of the golden cluster, tying that lower passage back into the blue field surrounding it rather than letting it sit as a completely separate element, a bridge in color between the cool field and the warmer cluster below it, softening what would otherwise be an abrupt jump between the two zones. Mhatre lets the dark hull shape taper to a fine point as it crosses into the blue field, giving the whole upper section a real sense of directional movement.
This is a hand-painted acrylic original on canvas, not a reproduction. The golden cluster carries the painting's densest built-up texture and is worth viewing at close range, its pebble-like marks standing in visible relief. The cerulean field surrounding the hull shape is not a single flat coat; Mhatre varies the tone subtly across the canvas, keeping the blue from ever settling into total uniformity or reading as a single mixed batch of paint.
