Triangle of Light is a 12" x 12" acrylic original by artist Vinay Mhatre, built around a single bright white triangular peak breaking forward out of a dense, dark clustered mass at the center of the canvas.
That dark mass is worked in deep charcoal and brown, layered thickly enough to read as a harbor structure or moored boats pressed close together, its density making the white triangle beside it read as a sudden gap of raw light cutting through.
Behind the central cluster, a row of smaller, more distant triangular rooftops repeats the same peaked shape along the right side of the canvas, echoing the central form at a smaller, quieter scale, so the composition sets up a rhyme between its brightest mark and its most muted ones.
A band of pale teal runs across the middle distance, separating the dense dark cluster from the softer grey-green field above it, giving the eye a clear horizontal rest between the two more active bands of the composition.
Small dashes of dark blue and black run through the textured cluster, adding fine incident to what would otherwise be a single flat mass of dark tone, small marks that reward a slower look once the central contrast of light and dark has been taken in. Mhatre keeps the palette otherwise restrained, letting the sharp value contrast between the white triangle and the dark cluster do more work than color ever needs to, proving how much drama a composition can carry on tone alone.
This is a hand-painted acrylic original on canvas, not a reproduction. The white triangular form carries raised, textured paint that catches light sharply from an angle, its edges left rough rather than smoothed flat. Mhatre builds the dark surrounding cluster from several overlapping layers of charcoal and brown, letting each pass show faintly through the next rather than fully covering what came before.
Triangle of Light sits alongside pieces like Pale Sail in Mhatre's Guest Artist collection, sharing his recurring device of a single bright triangular form breaking through a darker field. Its square format suits a living room feature wall or above a fireplace, where its sharp contrast can carry all the way across a large room.
Of all the white triangular forms recurring in this series, this is the one given the sharpest, most dramatic surrounding contrast, light pushed hardest against dark in a way none of its softer companion pieces attempt.
