The Old Pier is a 12" x 12" acrylic original by artist Vinay Mhatre, and it runs a single weathered brown post directly down the center of the canvas, splitting a pale blue harbor field into two roughly equal halves.
The post itself carries the densest texture in the piece — scratched, layered, and worked with visible brushwork that reads as old, salt-worn timber, standing in sharp contrast to the smoother, more atmospheric blue field around it.
Along the upper portion of the canvas, a low, uneven line of triangular rooftops sits at the horizon, rendered in muted brown and grey-green, distant enough to stay soft and unresolved against the paler sky above them.
Fine white spatter marks are scattered across the lower half of the composition, standing in for foam, spray, or simply the record of paint flicked across the wet surface, adding a sense of movement to what would otherwise be a very still, planar scene, a brief flicker of activity against the post's fixed, unmoving presence. Mhatre keeps the horizon line low and understated, giving the pale blue field more room to dominate the composition than the distant rooftops ever could, a choice that puts the weathered post firmly at the center of attention.

This is a hand-painted acrylic original on canvas, not a reproduction. The post's worked, layered surface is the piece's clearest passage of physical texture and shifts under different light, its scratched grain catching shadow along one edge. The white spatter marks scattered through the lower field were worked wet into wet with the surrounding blue, giving them a soft, slightly bled edge rather than sitting crisply on top of the dried paint.
