Inner Sound is a 48" x 36" acrylic original by artist Arvind Kolapkar, and unlike the musicians elsewhere in this series, the woman here holds no instrument. The title points inward instead — to a music felt rather than performed — and Kolapkar paints that idea literally by letting a flock of birds gather at her shoulder so closely that their forms merge into hers, reading as a wing or plumage growing directly from her body rather than a companion beside her.
That fusion is the entire subject of the piece: the birds aren't illustrating sound, they're standing in for it, an inner music made visible as something living and feathered rather than as an instrument being played.
Kolapkar paints the birds in blended passages of blue, pink, and teal, working the colors into one another rather than keeping each bird as a separate shape. That blending technique is what allows the flock to dissolve into the woman's silhouette instead of sitting apart from it as decoration.
Two solitary white doves sit at a distance from the main flock, drawn in a lighter, more open outline. Their quiet, separate presence contrasts with the dense, richly colored cluster at her shoulder, giving the internal sound at the center of the painting more weight by comparison.
The background is kept to a soft, muted grey-blue, a flattening that pushes all of the painting's color and detail into the figure and the birds, leaving nothing to compete with the fusion the title is naming.
