Garlands for Gauri

Garlands for Gauri — a sacred cow stands draped in layered floral garlands, her body richly decorated from neck to tail in the ornamental style of Pichwai devotion.

Garlands are the focus of this composition, painted in overlapping rows of pink, cream and gold blossoms that wrap around the cow's neck and back, more elaborate than the simpler single-strand adornment seen in other pieces. Her face carries the tradition's characteristic gold forehead marking and gentle, downcast expression.

A warm coral-red background frames the figure, bordered by the dense repeated patterning typical of the style, with the generous 24-inch canvas giving the layered garland detail room to be fully appreciated.

In Pichwai painting, cow are never just background figures — they carry the weight of sacred symbolism, standing in for abundance, gentleness and the everyday presence of the divine. That symbolism is what this canvas draws on, translated into a piece meant for a home rather than a shrine.

This piece suits a pooja room, entryway or living room wall where its rich ornamentation can serve as a natural focal point. It pairs well with brass, warm wood and soft ambient lighting. Its scale and palette have both been chosen to hold their own on a wall without overwhelming the room around them. The canvas texture remains visible beneath the paint, a small detail that photographs rarely capture but that adds real depth in person. Viewed up close, the fine linework and layered color reward a slower look than a quick glance across the room.

Every brushstroke here is done by hand by an in-house Sajaao artist, giving this canvas the individuality of a true original — visible texture, layered color and small variations that make it one of a kind. It arrives ready to display with confidence.

A thoughtful choice for housewarmings, weddings, anniversaries or festival gifting, it suits anyone drawn to devotional art with a handmade, personal touch.

The painting arrives framed, carefully packaged for safe transit, and accompanied by an authenticity certificate, so there's nothing further to arrange before displaying it. A little care goes a long way: keep it away from prolonged direct sunlight and clean the surface only with a dry, soft cloth.

You can choose from a black, brown, gold, silver or white frame, letting the painting sit comfortably alongside your existing furniture and decor. This choice is made as part of ordering, so the final look is easy to plan for ahead of time.
