Lotus Moon Pichwai

Lotus Moon Pichwai — a dark-hued sacred cow, painted in the deep blue-black associated with Shyam, stands beneath a pale moon surrounded by lotus blooms.

This piece departs from the warm ochre tones typical of Pichwai cow, instead using a deep indigo-black body color traditionally linked to Krishna's own dark complexion, a meaningful choice within devotional painting. Gold jewelry stands out with striking clarity against the dark form, while lotus flowers in soft pink cluster around her feet.

A muted violet-blue background surrounds the scene, the pale moon glowing softly above, bordered by the tradition's characteristic decorative edging rendered here in a cooler palette to match.

The bond between a cow and her calf is one of the most common tender images in Indian devotional art, read as a symbol of nurturing, protection and quiet care. Even where this piece departs from that exact pairing, its warmth and stillness borrow from the same emotional register.

This piece suits a pooja room, meditation space or any devotional corner drawn to a deeper, more contemplative palette. It pairs naturally with brass, deep wood and soft evening light. Viewed up close, the fine linework and layered color reward a slower look than a quick glance across the room. Even from across a room, the balance of color and pattern here is meant to read clearly rather than blend into the wall behind it. Its scale and palette have both been chosen to hold their own on a wall without overwhelming the room around them.

This piece is painted from start to finish by an in-house Sajaao artist, an authentic original on canvas with visible brush detail and depth that catches the light in a way only a hand-painted surface can. It ships ready to display with confidence.

A thoughtful choice for housewarmings, weddings, anniversaries or festival gifting, it suits anyone drawn to devotional art with a handmade, personal touch.

Framing is included at no extra cost, and every piece is packed securely for safe delivery along with a certificate of authenticity confirming it as a genuine hand-painted original. For long-term care, keep it out of direct sun and wipe the surface gently with a dry, soft cloth if dust settles over time.

The canvas is available with a choice of black, brown, gold, silver or white frame, so it can be matched easily to existing furniture and wall tones. Choosing a frame color is part of the ordering process, making it simple to picture the finished piece in your own space.
