Potraj-2 is a 48" x 60" acrylic original by artist Deven Bhosale, a close, single-figure study following his group composition Potraj. A performer stands mid-swing, hair whipped upward with the force of the motion, a long braided whip coiled into a full circular loop around his body — the exact ritual gesture Potraj performers are known for, traditionally part of devotional processions honoring village goddesses.
Bells and cord bindings wrap the performer's wrists and ankles, rendered in careful detail, the small metal bells catching individual highlights that suggest the sound they'd make with every crack of the whip.
Bhosale paints the whip's full loop as the composition's dominant shape, a near-perfect circle traced against the warm ochre background, making the motion itself — not just the figure holding it — the true subject of the piece.
The performer's patterned, layered skirt and sash catch warm reds and golds against his bare torso, grounding the ritual costume in specific, observed textile detail rather than generic drapery.
