Ember Passage is a 12x12 acrylic original by artist Siddhesh Rane, a deep crimson field opening onto a smaller inset passage of glowing coral and warm white light, framed by a dark maroon rock silhouette on the left.
The crimson field is built in visible, directional strokes, thinner and more transparent near the top of the canvas and thickening into denser, more opaque color toward the rock silhouette below. The inset passage of coral and white light reads almost like a window cut into the surrounding red, a smaller, brighter scene glimpsed through a gap in the rock.
The overall mood sits between warmth and tension, the small bright passage offering relief from the density of red surrounding it. There's a dusk-like quality to the color balance here, the kind of light that comes just after sunset when red still dominates but shadows have started to deepen.
Ember Passage reflects his recurring return to canyon and cliff forms, built from thick, palette-knife layers of color applied in deliberate, directional passes. It belongs to a wider group of 19 canyon and cliff-toned abstracts released together, several of which share this same underlying palette and technique. Alongside Maroon Hollow and Sunlit Ledge, it forms a trio of small square canvases exploring how far a single red family can be pushed before it needs a contrasting note.
As a gallery-wrapped acrylic on canvas, it can be hung unframed for a clean, contemporary look, or set into a simple floating frame for a more finished edge.
Ember Passage would suit a cafe or casual dining space, where its scale and palette can anchor the room without overwhelming it. As a non-representational piece, it also works well as a gift for someone furnishing a new home or office who wants a strong color statement rather than a literal scene.
Rane's canyon-toned abstracts are built up gradually in layers, and the finished surface still holds the marks of that process rather than smoothing them away. Natural, indirect light tends to bring out the surface texture clearly; direct sun for long periods should be avoided so the colour stays true over time. As a handmade original, small variations in texture and brushwork are part of the piece rather than a flaw, and are consistent with how Rane works across this series.
Ember Passage rewards a slower look, the small bright passage at its center holding more detail the longer it's viewed. At 12x12, it also works well grouped with other small-format pieces on a single gallery wall rather than hung entirely on its own.
