Clean Up Mumbai is a 30" x 22" pen and ink original by artist Umesh Ghadge. Four crows perch along the top edge of a municipal garbage dumpster, pecking and searching, while the bin itself carries stenciled text and a red exclamation-mark warning symbol — the visible signage of a civic cleanliness campaign, ignored by the birds using the bin exactly as bins are used.
That gap between the official warning and the ordinary scene beside it is the painting's quiet observation, the title's civic instruction sitting directly next to the reality it hasn't yet changed.
Ghadge renders the brick wall behind the dumpster in dense, individually placed stippled dots, giving the stone a rough, weathered texture that grounds the scene in a specific, real corner of the city rather than an abstracted setting.
The crows themselves are rendered in solid, confident dark strokes, their forms reading clearly and immediately against the more textured, patient stippling of the wall and bin behind them.
This willingness to find its subject in an ordinary, even slightly pointed, piece of urban life — rather than a grand landmark — sets Clean Up Mumbai apart within Ghadge's collection of architectural and street studies.
