Cracked Earth is a 30" x 36" mixed media original by artist Sanjay Sabale. The canvas splits loosely into two registers — a pale, cloud-streaked grey-blue passage across the top, and a dense field of olive, gold, and brown below — a division that reads almost like sky over ground without depicting either literally.
Fine black linework spreads across the lower field like a web of cracks, an intricate, brittle texture worked into the poured pigment that gives the ground its title — surface tension made visible.
Small bursts of red are scattered through the composition's midsection, bright, contained dots that stand out sharply against the more blended, earthy tones surrounding them.
Sabale's pouring technique produces the piece's soft, atmospheric upper register and its denser, textured lower field within the same continuous process, the two zones meeting without a hard, deliberate line between them.
This organic division between an open, atmospheric upper zone and a dense, textured lower one recurs loosely across several of Sabale's abstract works, though the specific palette and cracking texture here are unique to this piece.
The vertical format suits a study, office, or a grouping alongside the artist's other abstract works, where the shared poured technique ties the pieces together as a series.
This is a hand-made mixed media original on canvas, not a reproduction. Natural variation in the pigment's pooling and cracking texture is inherent to the process and part of each piece's individual character.
Cracked Earth holds its title in its surface texture as much as its palette — a ground that reads as dry, worked, and marked by time.
