Ember in the Rift is a 30" x 36" mixed media original by artist Sanjay Sabale. A saturated red field covers most of the canvas, interrupted by a black rectangular opening near the lower center where a single warm gold form curves and glows, like the last visible ember in an otherwise dark space.
That contrast — a dominant, active red field against one contained, dark rift — is the piece's structural core, the eye drawn immediately to the one area of true darkness and the small warmth held inside it.
Sabale works the red field with visible pouring and blending, patches of green surfacing in the upper portion where colors have mixed mid-process, giving the dominant red genuine internal variation rather than flat saturation.
The black void is sharply edged compared to the organic, flowing red around it, a more deliberate geometric interruption than the marbled color surrounding it, making the gold ember within it read as contained rather than simply another passage of color.
This pouring technique, consistent across Sabale's abstract works, produces results that can't be fully planned in advance — the pigment's own behavior as it settles and dries is as much a part of the final image as any deliberate mark.
The vertical format suits a study, office, or a grouping alongside the artist's other abstract works, where the shared poured technique ties the pieces together as a series.
This is a hand-made mixed media original on canvas, not a reproduction. Natural variation in the pigment's pooling is inherent to the process and part of each piece's individual character.
Ember in the Rift holds its warmth in reserve, the surrounding red giving way to darkness before revealing the one small point of glow at its center.
