Maternal Embrace II is a 24" x 36" acrylic original by artist Sanjay Sabale, the second work in a series returning to the same subject. A standing mother figure sweeps a large fold of green fabric around a small child seated at her feet, the child's hand raised up toward her in a gesture of trust.
Sabale builds the mother's form in his signature fine hatching, her grey-toned skin and dark striped garment rendered in dense, directional strokes, while the green fabric she wraps around the child is painted flat and smooth by contrast, giving it a soft, enveloping quality distinct from the figure's more linear rendering.
A warm orange circular form glows behind the mother's head like a sun or halo, set against a deep red background broken by patches of abstract color in the upper corners, grounding the tender central gesture within a warm, charged field.
The checkered blue floor pattern beneath the child is a rare passage of geometric regularity in an otherwise organic composition, anchoring the scene in a specific, tiled domestic space.
As the second work titled Maternal Embrace, this piece suggests Sabale returns to the mother-and-child gesture more than once, exploring the same protective pose across more than one canvas.
The vertical format suits a nursery, bedroom, or family space, where its tender subject and warm palette fit naturally.
This is a hand-painted acrylic original on canvas, not a reproduction. The fine hatching throughout is built up by hand, part of Sabale's consistent figurative technique.
Maternal Embrace II holds its title's gesture at the center of the canvas — a sweep of fabric standing in for the whole idea of being sheltered.
Maternal Embrace II sits alongside pieces like Memorable Moment in Sabale's Guest Artist collection, reflecting Sabale's willingness to shift technique from piece to piece rather than settle on one register. The gallery-wrapped canvas means it's ready to hang as-is; a floating frame is worth considering only if you want a more formal, finished edge. Beyond the spaces already suited to it, Maternal Embrace II also works well in a reading nook or quiet corner for a slightly different feel.
Given its subject, it also makes a fitting gift to mark an anniversary, a new home, or the arrival of a family member. Domestic and family subjects like this one tend to reward a second, slower look, since the relationships between figures are often built through posture and proximity rather than expression alone. Natural, indirect light tends to bring out the surface texture best; direct sun for long periods should be avoided so the colour stays true over time.
