Storm's Eye is a 30" x 36" mixed media original by artist Sanjay Sabale. A swirling, ringed form in blue and red sits in the upper portion of the canvas, its concentric, curved lines reading unmistakably as a vortex, while the lower two-thirds of the canvas holds a dense, textured field of charcoal grey.
That swirling form is the calm, defined center the title names — a clear, contained shape amid the more diffuse, textured field surrounding it, the way a storm's eye holds still within surrounding turbulence.
Sabale builds the charcoal field below with heavy texture, layered dark pigment worked with visible ridges and marks, while the vortex above is smoother and more fluidly poured, a clear technical distinction between the piece's calm center and its turbulent ground.
Small warm accents — a streak of gold near the vortex, a curl of orange at the lower edge — keep the otherwise cool, dark palette from settling into monotony.
This pouring technique, consistent across Sabale's abstract works, produces results that can't be fully planned in advance — the pigment's own behavior as it settles and dries is as much a part of the final image as any deliberate mark.
The vertical format suits a study, office, or a grouping alongside the artist's other abstract works, where the shared poured technique ties the pieces together as a series.
This is a hand-made mixed media original on canvas, not a reproduction. Natural variation in the pigment's pooling and texture is inherent to the process and part of each piece's individual character.
Storm's Eye earns its title through composition as much as color — one defined, swirling center held above a field of unresolved texture.
