Green Depths is a 20" x 60" mixed media original by artist Sanjay Sabale, one of six tall, narrow panels in his abstract series. A dense, dark green field runs through nearly the full length of the canvas, broken only by a warm orange-red passage at the very top, edged with a small block of contrasting blue.
Embedded within the green, small pale rectangular fragments are visible — genuine collage elements worked into the poured pigment rather than painted illusions, giving this piece a literal mixed-media quality distinct from the purely poured passages elsewhere in the series.
The green itself is worked with visible depth, layered dark tones building a sense of real distance within the color rather than a flat single hue, consistent with the piece's title.
The warm orange band at the top provides the panel's only real contrast, a compressed passage of heat before the long, cool descent into green that dominates the rest of the canvas.
This use of embedded collage material within the poured pigment sets Green Depths and a few of its companion panels apart from Sabale's more purely paint-based abstracts, making good on the "mixed media" description more literally than most.
The tall vertical format suits a narrow wall, stairwell, or a grouping with its companion panels, where several can be hung together to form a wider composition.
This is a hand-made mixed media original on canvas, not a reproduction. The embedded fragments and natural variation in pigment pooling are part of each piece's individual, hand-built character.
Green Depths asks to be viewed up close as well as from a distance — its embedded fragments are only visible on close inspection of the dense green field holding them.
