Golden Fracture is a 20" x 60" mixed media original by artist Sanjay Sabale, one of six tall, narrow panels in his abstract series. Bright gold pigment, marked with fine red spatter, fills the upper third of the canvas before giving way to a dark maroon and black field holding a single pale, curved form near its center.
That pale curve reads like a fracture line running through the darker lower register, a break in the canvas's density that gives the piece its title and the one area where light re-enters after the transition from gold to near-black.
A small block of cool blue sits just below the pale curve, a brief contained accent against the surrounding warm darkness, while a warm orange-brown passage closes out the panel's base.
Sabale's pouring technique produces the sharp tonal shift between the bright upper register and the dark lower field within a single continuous process, the fine red spatter in the gold suggesting the same energy that settles into denser pigment below.
The tall, narrow proportions of this panel and its five companions in the series are used consistently to isolate a single vertical movement of color and tone, rather than the wider compositions found in Sabale's square-format abstracts.
The tall vertical format suits a narrow wall, stairwell, or a grouping with its companion panels, where several can be hung together to form a wider composition.
This is a hand-made mixed media original on canvas, not a reproduction. Natural variation in the pigment's pooling is inherent to the process and part of each piece's individual character.
Golden Fracture holds its brightest color at the top and its density below, the pale curved break between them the panel's most memorable single mark.
