Earthbound is a 14x10 watercolor original by artist Nandkishor Shinde, a bare, gnarled tree with a deep violet trunk standing over a rocky, sunlit clearing beside modest pink and white village houses.
The tree's violet-toned trunk and bare branches stand in deliberate contrast to the warmer pink and cream tones of the village houses behind it. Scattered rocks across the clearing are built from quick, textured strokes, giving the ground real presence beneath the tree's dominant silhouette.
The overall composition uses the tree's bare, dramatic form as a clear counterpoint to the softer, more domestic houses behind it. The path winding past the tree connects the foreground rocks to the houses behind, giving the composition a clear sense of depth and route.
Earthbound reflects his consistent interest in ordinary village, forest, and coastal life, rendered through loose washes rather than tight, literal illustration. It belongs to a wider group of watercolors from Shinde's Konkan and Pune-region work, several sharing this same loose, atmospheric technique. Its bare, dramatic tree form sets it apart from the denser forest studies elsewhere in this release, standing closer to Hirave Raan's open village setting.
