Fields Awaiting Rain is a 10x14 watercolor original by artist Nandkishor Shinde, flooded rice paddies under a heavy, purple-grey monsoon sky, small figures working the fields with hills and scattered houses along the horizon.
The purple-grey sky takes up nearly half the composition, its weight and density doing most of the work to suggest an approaching monsoon. The small figures working the fields are placed low in the composition, their presence felt more than individually detailed.
The overall mood is one of anticipation rather than storm itself, the sky heavy but the rain not yet fallen. Scattered houses and hills along the horizon are painted with minimal detail, letting the sky and flooded fields carry the composition.

This piece is one of 20 watercolors in the same release, drawn from Shinde's travels through Konkan villages, the coast, and Pune's countryside and city streets.
