Panchayat is a 14x19 watercolor original by artist Nandkishor Shinde, a large stone-and-plaster community building with a red roof, shaded by tall trees and fronted by a low stone wall and rocky waterside edge.
The building's stone walls are built from layered violet-grey washes, giving real weight and age to what is clearly a civic rather than domestic structure. The two trees framing either side of the composition are handled quite differently, one looser and more atmospheric, the other with more defined individual leaves.
The overall feeling balances civic function and everyday village life, the building clearly a gathering point rather than a purely decorative structure. The rocky, uneven waterside edge in the foreground is built with quick, textured strokes, giving the ground real presence beneath the calmer building above.
Panchayat reflects the same soft, atmospheric handling of light that runs through his other work in this collection, favoring mood over precise detail. This piece is part of the same release as Shinde's other Konkan, village, and countryside watercolors, drawn from his travels through Maharashtra. Its civic architecture pairs it naturally with By the Wada Gate and Dust on the Path, all three centered on a specific, named type of building.
