Floating in Harmony is a 14x10 watercolor original by artist Nandkishor Shinde, two wooden fishing boats anchored side by side on calm water, their masts rising against a sky streaked in violet, pink, and gold.
The two boats are painted at slightly different scales and angles, giving the composition a natural, unposed quality rather than an exactly symmetrical pairing. Faint reflections beneath each boat extend the violet and gold of the sky down into the water, tying the upper and lower halves of the painting together.
The overall mood stays calm and settled, the two boats resting rather than actively working the water. Small figures aboard each boat are suggested with just a few marks, enough to indicate they're currently in use rather than abandoned.
Floating in Harmony reflects the same soft, atmospheric handling of light that runs through his other work in this collection, favoring mood over precise detail. This piece is part of the same release as Shinde's other Konkan, village, and countryside watercolors, drawn from his travels through Maharashtra. Its evening palette connects it to Purple Skies, both built around the same violet and gold dusk light over water and village.
Being watercolor on paper, framing under glass with a proper mount is worth the investment; it keeps the washes from fading and protects the sheet itself. At 14x10, it's a comfortable mid-scale piece, easy to place above furniture or within a grouped wall arrangement.
Floating in Harmony would suit a home living or dining space, where its scale and palette can anchor the room without overwhelming it. It also suits gifting to someone who values a specific place or memory over a purely decorative scene.
Pieces in this collection read as remembered moments more than fixed records, built from loose, confident washes rather than careful outline. Indirect natural light tends to bring out the paper's texture and the layered washes clearly, and keeping it out of direct sun helps the colors hold. Being handmade, minor variations in wash and paper texture are expected and are part of Shinde's process, not a defect.
Floating in Harmony holds its two boats in easy, unforced balance against the evening sky. It holds its own as a standalone piece, without needing a companion work to feel complete. It's a fitting choice for anyone drawn to quiet, atmospheric landscape work over sharper realism. It also works well grouped with Purple Skies as a small pair of dusk-lit studies from this release.
